American Gentleman: Albert Reed

Esquire magazine, april (2009)

He can even do the Bridal mags.

Reed with George Clooney last year.

I've received a fairly large number of emails, requesting that I do a spotlight on a modern day gentleman. I assume by modern day gentleman you don't mean some dude in a stuffy plaid jacket, but a young, intelligent, sophisticated young man, with an appetite for finer things and breaking only the right rules. I assume you didn't previously realize I had something up my sleeve. I assume you mean Albert Reed. For those of you who don't know who Reed is, he has a modeling portfolio that would ensure access to any female's presence and a track record of humanitarianism dating back to when he was 18. Reed, 24 now, may have been best noted for his appearance on Dancing With the Stars during its 09' season or his 2004 front and back cover on the Abercrombie and Fitch catalog. Granted he didn't win on Dancing With the Stars, but he blows work off at least 7 days a month to go surfing......  how G is that. He models in shoots ranging from Maserati driving sequences to quasi nature scenes, this guy could be the next Bond. He was quoted as saying, "In school, I was that popular outside kid, who stayed close to my few surfer buddies, but was always on good terms with everyone. I just kept my mouth shut and listened. The ocean was my playground. If the surf was sucky, we would either be spear-fishing or wakeboarding. People, the photos speak for themselves. I give this guy full Gentleman Certification.

Stay diversified gents.

How To: Memorial Day boat BBQ

JFK relaxing on a boat....

the Magna boat BBQ......

in front of "The Woodstock". (Avalon, Memorial day 1999)

top-siders, a must.....

I figured since Memorial Day is on monday, I should give the best advice possible on how to enjoy it. The most enjoyable times I can remember growing up were on a boat of some kind. Big or small, the boat is (usually) a relaxing environment that bodes quite well to skeptic women. Find any friend, even that friend that has a boat, but is usually a total ass because he can be. Once you square away your boat, the next item that is a must for any occasion especially Memorial Day; The Boat BBQ by Magna. It fits conveniently in any rod holder on your yacht or small vessel. Make sure you firmly have the bolt locked into place, I personally have lost a few meals to Avalon harbor. Once you have your BBQ in place and ready to go, you must find a legitimate Memorial day recipe. I did some searching today and found some pretty amazing ideas and tips on the Williams-Sanoma.com website. Take your pick from one of the options on their recipes page. Amazing. Hopefully this gave you some direction on how to spend your 3 day weekend. Oh, and I almost forgot, please get a pair of boat shoes. If you want to be a cheap-ass, Rockport has them for $39.00 at their outlet. No excuses.

Stay American Gents.

Nike AirMax Classic grey/red/black

I haven't made a critical fashion effort recently and I apologize for that. But soon after searching the vast expanse of fashion content on the internet, I soon realized why I hadn't done this very thing in quite some time. That realization came when logged onto the H&M clothing website to see if there were any good deals. I found this....

no comment

Are you thinking what I was thinking when I first saw this?........tigerbeat.com..... exactly. The second confirmation of my hate of fashion research came when I realized that I should have just written a post on the Nike AirMax Classic like my intuition told me. So I did. Here they are in the Grey/Red/Black color option.

Look for their release this July in the UK. Pre-orders are open. The Nike AirMax was originally released in the 1990's. In fact their is a good chance that Rodney King was wearing them during his beat-down. Actually I picture him wearing flip-flops with holes in them. Possibly a Hawaiian shirt with flowers on it. Anyways, enjoy your weekend.

Stay sharp gents.

BMW M Roadster Road Test

our test resulted in a 5.7 sec 0-60.

both lateral and acceleration G-forces.
Today was the second road test. In my opinion light years ahead of the last featured video (Corvette ZR-1). The quality will continue to improve with the cars we test drive. Enjoy the ride along with Dieter Heinz of HGmotorsports, as he gives you an in depth analysis on the M roadster and what it's like to drive it. "Your wife will probably like it..." Dieter is a race car champion with 4 years of professional racing experience. Check out his site for an in-depth look at his current and past race seasons. Hope you enjoy the video!

Cheers Gents.

Nikes & Origami

Nike Trainer 1

Takuo Toda, the head of the Japanese Origami Airplane Association.
 (I'm not joking)

This Nike shoe makes me think of ironclad battles on a foggy field in the middle ages. It almost seems like a knight would roll with the Nike Trainer 1, simply because it's the best Trainer shoe Nike has ever made, thus the number 1. I would imagine if you rocked these shoes you would immediately become more badass. Wear them with some jeans, you'll be alright or wear them when you go to the gym, I don't really care what you wear them with, just buy them. Do any of you know how to make a paper airplane that can fly for 29 seconds? Because this asian dude did it pretty easily. This has to be the most diverse post yet.

Let your mind wonder gents.

Dolla the Rapper Killed By Fatal Gunshot

Dolla

When I first heard this, I thought it was a new ad campaign for Pillsbury, geared toward their inner city demographic. But I soon found out that the same rapper who was attending the same NBA after party as Shelby, Carlos, and I, was shot and murdered at the Beverly Center today. Roderick Anthony Burton II a.k.a Dolla, was killed by one of two people that are in custody, one a male and the other a female that was seen shooting a gun at the scene of the murder. The male that was arrested was stopped when he tried to board a plane at LAX this afternoon. Burton suffered multiple head traumas including a gunshot to the head. He was gunned down while waiting with a DJ by the name of "DJ Shabazz", in the valet line at the Beverly Center at 3:10pm this afternoon. Eye witnesses claimed that the altercation that had started inside the Beverly Center, eventually escalated into the Valet area, where a valet worker said he saw a woman shoot a handgun. Why the hell did I cover this? Has anyone seen the 24 Season Finale?

Stay alive gents.

Pharell Out of This World

out of this world

Super tight mix tape. I am a huge Pharell fan and would probably have loved it even if it wasn't globally accepted as one of the best mix tapes this year. The Neptune's beat influence really make the lines spit by Kanye West, Rick Ross, Juelz Santana, Snoop Dogg (and others) sound  impressive if not more impressive than the original song on the artists album. Download it for free here.
stay creative gents

Audi R8 GT3

commissioned for GT3 class 2009

When I first saw this car, I almost fainted. It was by far the most aggressive, sporty, next level GT3 car I have ever seen. GT3 cars are even closer to their production counterparts and are very simply racetrack prepared with the essentials (rollcages for safety, stripped interiors, race spec fuel tanks, etc.). Prestigious motorsports makes such as Aston Martin, Chevrolet, Dodge, Lamborghini, Ascari and Maserati take part in FIA GT3 European Championship, a series in which some say is the most challenging circuit in the world. The R8 GT3 was constructed with a 6-speed sequential gear box and a 550 horsepower V-10.

The GT3 class strictly prohibits the use of all-wheel drivetrains, so the R8 GT3 comes in the rear-wheel drive format. It will beat your car. Its projected to beat out the rest of the cars racing in the Nurburgring 24-hour Race. To have this vehicle in your collection separates you from the normal car connoisseur. You become elite. And you get a V10 that growls like Tom Ford at a gay strip club. Watch this car race on ESPN or Speedvision for the 2009 LAMS Season. Why doesn't a rapper write a song about cars like this?
Stay auto savvy Gents.

Bernie Madoff

Madoff's Manhattan Apartment.

the lipstick building where Madoff's 17th floor operation was run.

his view. what a G
.

his jet. now this is a private aircraft.

moments after admitting to the courts, the scale of his scheme.

So I find myself researching more information about Madoff. For those of you who don't know who Bernard Madoff is, he is the man responsible for the worlds largest Ponzi Scheme ever. He personally orchestrated a 50 billion dollar scheme that resulted in his demise this past november. He now faces 150 years in prison, but his sentence will be given in June. First of all if you havn't seen the senator Ackerman clip on CNN or C-SPAN, it will change your life (shown Below).

But I do side with Ackerman on this deal; what the hell is the SEC's function if large unmasked amounts of money were able to be deposited directly into Bernard Madoff's Chase Manhattan Checking account without needing to be accounted for? The jury is still out on that one, but It heightens the intrigue a little bit, when you really study Madoff. He lived the most ridiculous life anyone could possibly imagine. He had to have known that he was going down but he didn't give a rat's ass. He had houses all over the world, Yachts, planes, the best of everything. But every dog has his day. And the dog in this case is certainly Bernard Madoff. I do have to tip my hat to the old bastard for pulling off the most famous scheme of all time. Like Lou Mannheim, from the classic film "Wall Street" said, "Kid, you're on a roll. Enjoy it while it lasts, 'cause it never does." I guess Madoff gambled hard and lost hard. Could I be obsessed with Bernie?
Stay scheming gents.

AirBull RedRaces..........What?

Grizz Transport Service

bad ass

infestation

see what I mean

hello
I am back from a 3 week break. It mainly consisted of playing golf with my dad, traveling a little bit and trying to keep my mental sanity (which is an on-going effort). I will have more blog content on that later, but first, my coverage of the Red Bull Air Races in San Diego. What do you want to hear first, how nasty the Hyatt's STD Jacuzzi was, or how annoying drunk people under 18 are. When Bollinger calls you with free tickets to the air races, you don't exactly want to refuse them. So naturally I selected the two most outlandish people I know as accomplices; Payam and Grizz. Payam refuses to dress normal or talk quietly pretty much 24/7 and demanded that he be able to wear a rabbit fur jacket that was stolen from a house in San Fransisco. He reminds me of a Binicio del Toro sketch cartoon from Fear and Loathing. But none the less my crew was somewhat coherent and we were on our way to the races. As soon as we got to the event it was 4pm. Not only had the races started at 1pm, but they ended at 5pm. So we watched one plane race and then finished our 60 minute stay with Jack and Cokes in the Lobby of Doug Manchester's Hyatt hotel. I took a couple photos, but this has to be the worst coverage of an event I have ever documented. I have no legitimate information about who raced or what planes were there, but I can tell you that the color of the pool was a dim yellow by the time we left and at least a thousand girls were impregnated by the time we got back home. Planes are pretty bad ass though. Probably thought my first entry back would be a good one? Expectations......

Stay std free gents.
